It is easy to get lost in the college search
We can help guide you.
-
1. Assessing preferences
Our approach identifies students and their families' priorities and preferences so that they can plan and collaborate more effectively.
The first stage begins with an initial assessment of you and your child’s college-going priorities and preferences. After completing a brief questionnaire we will provide a one-page report on areas of consensus and contrast. This is followed by individual 30-minute conversations with the student and with the caregiver(s). This stage closes with a longer 45-minute discussion intended to align the college search priorities and preferences.Deliverable: Brief report on areas of consensus and contrast.
Timing: Fall of 11th grade - summer transition.

3. Completing applications
We provide a supportive college choice process that considers students’ aspirations, abilities, personalities, and identities.
We support the application process by creating a shared Google calendar with application deadlines and reminders. In addition, we provide three 30-minute meetings with students to discuss their college essay prompts, as well as feedback and editing on up to three separate essays. We can provide additional meetings and editing services at an hourly rate.
Deliverable: Updated spreadsheet of target colleges with application confirmations and notification dates.
Timing: Fall-Winter of 12th grade

2. Searching and ranking
Research shows that finding the right academic and social fit improves academic outcomes and better prepares students for career success.
The second stage begins with identifying key criteria for the college search (e.g. location, cost, academic programming, campus climate, engagement opportunities). Then we will research and rank an initial list of 20 schools based on prioritized criteria. The will be followed by a 60-minute discussion to finalize the list of 8-12 target schools, including safety, match, and reach schools.
Deliverable: Spreadsheet of target college with application requirements, components, and deadlines.
Timing: Summer transition - Fall of 12th grade.

4. Evaluating and deciding
We recognize the gravity of the decision-making process by approaching it with the empathy and candor it deserves.
It is time to celebrate acceptance letters, but also time to make tough decisions. We will help you assess financial aid packages to ensure return on investment. During this period we will meet for at least three 30-minute meetings to revisit your priorities and finalize your decision.
Deliverable: Updated spreadsheet of colleges acceptances with financial aid package analysis and acceptance deadlines.
Timing: Spring of 12th grade
